Referees, Non-skating officials, game announcers, photographers and film makers came from all over the South West to participate and make it a great day. We hadMomma Trucker Skates bring down a huge supply of must-have derby items from their shop in Exeter and we had merchandise on sale from Roller Derby City, including an exclusive range of T-shirts and Totes produced by them in collaboration with PlopperChops who designed the Bout Against Cancer merman image just for us!
Despite the 'fresh' winter temperatures at the venue, there was a steady stream of spectators and supporters cheering the teams on. Juniors impressed everyone with their skating, tactics and
communication. Rookies put on a feisty performance in a series of jams which included very experience skaters who were returning to the game after lengthy periods of time and skaters who were experiencing their first open bout ever. The female teams put on a nail biting show where the scores were almost neck and neck at times and Team Dunchaul arrived dressed Smokey and the Bandit style in braces, caps and moustache. The Co-ed Intermediate/Advanced bout was action-packed, loud.......and fast with the skaters giving it their absolute all. A few spills and time-outs for minor injuries added to the drama but didn't deter these experienced bouters from putting in an awesome performance.
Thank you to EVERYONE who helped organise this event, skated, officiated, supported and to all those who travelled from far. Photo's of the day are supplied by Georgie Sabin Photography and can be viewed here.
